The Black Keys worked with Gnarls Barkley man
01 April 2008 - The Black Keys have said it was a joy to work with acclaimed Gnarls Barkley producer Danger Mouse on their new album.Attack & Release is their fifth album and Dan Auerbach from the Ohio band said they felt understood when working with the Gorillaz mastermind.
He said: “What we felt he brought to us was just a real sense of understanding of what we stand for as a band and what kind of things we like y’know.
“And he was never pushy – he was always really nice and easy to talk to.
He went on: “Everyone’s opinions mattered and I think that’s how he gets the best out of musicians that he works with – he just is kind of an equal with them and it makes them perform better I think.”
Leaked album
The album was actually leaked way back in February but Dan accepts that this sort of thing does happen.
“It’s inevitable – you cant do anything about it unless you record the record and then just don’t send it to press, you just put it out immediately,” he said.
“There’s upsides and downsides to every way now - there really is no set way to do it anymore.
“I mean if the record doesn’t leak before it comes out, it’s gonna leak the day it comes out - so it’s gonna happen.”
The Black Keys start their UK tour on 19 May at the Astoria in London.
